The mystery photo is niter in the front pan at the end of the March 1st boil. The niter (sugar sand) was heavy that day. Tom, I enjoyed your spelling of niter as “nighter” since it builds up during those night boils. In this photo it really does glow like a bed of coals in the firebox. Regarding scale, the photo shows the width of a trough in the front pan. The pan was drained before this photo was taken. AC
